Kozhikode has good physical infrastructure and is well connected to the neighbouring states by road, rail, air and by waterways. Karipur International Airport is located in Kozhikode 30 kms away from the city. This airport has domestic flights connecting to all major cities and also to prominent Middle Eastern cities such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai, Bahrain, Jeddah, Riyadh, Muscat and Doha.

Following are some of the major national and state highways connecting the district to major neighbouring cities:

  1. NH 17 - traverses for about 77 kms through the district connecting Mangalore in the north and Kochi in the south
  2. NH 212 - connects it with major cities of the east like Bangalore and Mysore
  3. NH 213 - connects it with Chennai and Coimbatore
  4. State Highways covering a distance of 202.55 kms, connect the district to all important towns

Planned

Feasibility study conducted to access the traffic flow in Kozhikode city reflected many of the major traffic corridors in the city have journey speed lower than 20 Kms per hour. Out of 1.6 lakh vehicles approximately 85% are passenger vehicles and 14% are commercial vehicles enter and exit through the major corridors of the city. To decongest the city and provide environment friendly mode of public transport facility, government envisaged development of Monorail in Kozhikode city. The project with a total length of 23 kms is proposed to be developed in two phase is expected to reduce the traffic congestion and enhance the real estate development in the city.

Following are some of the major national and state highways connecting the district to major neighbouring cities:

  • Phase-1: Medical College to Meenchantha (15 Kms) with an investment of INR 1500 Crores
  • Phase-2: Meenchantha to Ramanattukara (8 kms)
