The City
Kerala Kozhikode, formerly known as Calicut, is a city in the state of Kerala and located on the Malabar Coast. It is the headquarters of the Kozhikode district. Kozhikode district is bounded by Kannur in the North, Wayanad in the East and Malappuram in the South. Kozhikode is the third largest city and is part of the second largest urban agglomeration in Kerala.

Demographic Indicators

According to census 2011, population in the Kozhikode urban agglomeration accounts for 2,030,519 where as the Kozhikode city population (within Municipal Corporation limits) accounts to 432,097 people. Out of the total Kozhikode population for 2011 census, 67.1% lives in urban regions of district.

Economic Indicators

Gross State Domestic Product

Kozhikode district is the fourth highest revenue generator for the state accounting for nearly 9% of the states Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) formation. As of 2010-11 the district possessed a Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) of INR 16, 644.82 Crores at constant prices registering a growth rate of 8.82% against the previous year of 2009-10. As per the 12th five year plan the state aims to maintain a growth of 20% in GSDP in the coming years.
